Common Device Repair Myths

We’ve all been there – or know someone who has. Something awful happened to your device and you think the world is ending. Okay, maybe not the whole world but at least your world is crumbling to the ground. I can’t say I blame you. We invest a lot of time (and money) in our devices and they often store a lot of important information, like passwords that I would most definitely forget if they didn’t save automatically. So, I get it – when something happens to your device it truly can be devastating. There is a lot (and I mean a LOT) of info out there about fixing and repairing devices. Some true, and some not so true. Many of the “facts” you know about device repair fall into that ‘not so true’ category. I’m going to share a few of those device repair myths with you and hopefully help you save a buck or two along the way!

Myth #1: Water damage? Quick, grab the rice!

For the love of all things tech, please do not try this – it won’t work! This might be the most common device repair “hack” that really isn’t a hack at all. More of a time (and rice) waster. The myth claims the uncooked rice magically absorbs all of the water from your device and saves the day. Unfortunately, it does not absorb it all (or much of anything). Instead, the rice often leaves behind excess particles that can cause more damage to your device than what you started with. So please, save yourself the added headache and leave the rice for cooking.

The Good News: our Ultra-Sonic Liquid Damage Recovery process works way better than dry rice in a bag.

Myth #2: All repairs take hours to do

This is definitely a myth, at least with the all-star technicians we have here at TCS! I once witnessed a phone screen swap happen in less than 10 minutes. Now, I know what you are thinking – some repairs take way longer than others which is totally true. But a majority of repairs that we see can be done within an hour. That way life can keep moving for you, and us! The advanced level repairs, like water damage and board level issues, do take much longer. They are kind of like life; the bigger and more complicated the problem, the longer it takes to fix it.

The Good News: our techs are able to revive 75 – 80% of devices that were otherwise done for.

Myth #3: I can only get it fixed by the manufacturer

You wouldn’t be reading this blog if this one were true, because we wouldn’t be in business! The great thing about device repair shops like ourselves is that we are often more affordable and quicker at repairing your device than the manufacturer. You can count on our quality parts and repair processes while not burning all the cash in your wallet (if you are one of the 17 people who still carry cash). Sometimes it can be challenging to source certain parts, but thanks to the #RightToRepair movement, great strides have been made to help consumers like yourself not spend an arm and a leg on a device that cost you an arm and a leg to begin with.

The Good News: you can give us a call today to learn more about our pricing – a real live human will answer during business hours instead of an automated machine, how cool is that!

Summary

Even though device repair isn’t glamorous or exciting to most, it’s good to know that you have quality options that don’t include rice or spending thousands of dollars. These busted myths should make you a much more consumer if (and when) that next accident happens to your device. And when that time comes, our team will be here to help save the day.
